Volcano sunset tour with food tasting, Gran Canaria
A full day inland by van to the Bandama crater, Cruz de Tejeda and a hike up to Roque Nublo, with a tasting meal and sunset from Pico de las Nieves. Hotel pickup is included.

About this activity
The day starts with pickup from one of nine points around the island and a drive up to Pico de Bandama, where you look down into the old Caldera de Bandama and your guide explains how the crater formed. It is the kind of view that makes sense of the whole island once someone talks you through it.
Next is Cruz de Tejeda, with time to browse local products at the market and eat at Tajinaste Restaurant, where the tasting is built around seasonal ingredients and French fusion cooking. Toilets and snacks are available here, which matters because there are none later on the trail.
The main walk is the 3.5 km return hike to Roque Nublo, with 200 metres of climbing on rocky ground. The incline averages 16 per cent and reaches 60 per cent in places, so you need to be reasonably fit and in proper shoes. The last stop is Pico de las Nieves, the island's highest point, for sunset and a shot of honey rum if the weather allows.
Guiding is in English and Spanish, your guide takes photos during the day, and you may get back later than the usual hotel dinner hour.
