About this activity

The evening starts with a drive inland through the mountains, past canyons, palm oases and villages such as Arteara and Fataga. The first stop is the Mirador Astronómico de la Degollada de las Yeguas, a short break for the views over the Grand Canyon of Gran Canaria and a few photos.

Next comes the Mirador del Pico de las Nieves at 1,949 m, where self-drivers join the group. You get a glass of cava or juice while the sun goes down, often above the cloud layer, with Teide on Tenerife visible across the water on a clear night.

After dark the tour continues to Llanos de la Pez, a remote spot with very little light pollution. Guides set up telescopes for planets, galaxies, nebulae and star clusters, run a laser-guided tour of the constellations and show live deep-sky images on tablets. Before the end they take a night-sky photo of you or your group using astrophotography techniques, which you can download afterwards.

It is cold up there in the evening, well below what you will have felt on the coast, so bring proper layers. Blankets are handed out.
