One slight frustration is that manually running udevadm trigger allows X to see the pedal, but after unplugging and plugging it back in results in it once again being ignored. We will fix this with a udev hwdb file. How satisfied are you with this response? In my case it is event4 this will differ depending on how many input devices you have plugged in , and choosing 4 from the evtest prompt then pressing the foot pedal switches shows that it is detecting the events!
